Antique all brass microscope is in fantastic condition! The original lacquer on all the brass is excellent.
The microscope is engraved "Ludwig Merker, Wien, VIII Buchfeldg. 19, No. 3187". Merker is a famous and hard to find maker of microscopes.
It has a quadruple objective lens turret, with lenses marked 3, 6, 9 and nothing. It has 2 eye piece lenses marked 2 & 4.
There are 2 different condenser lenses for the mirror light source, and 3 different aperture caps that fit on top of the condensers. It also has an iris diaphragm between the mirror and the condenser.
All moving pieces move smoothly and easily. The microscope measures 11 inches tall at its shortest, 15 inches with eye piece extended. The wooden box measures approximately 14" x 8" x 8".
The original box is made of reddish wood, that looks something like mahogany, it has a lovely, heavy duty handle that appears to be nickel silver. It has its original key and working lock. Inside are lens racks, a 2 compartment drawer on top and rails to hold the scope in place. Besides the aforementioned lenses, there is a wooden box with one pink tinted glass slide that has been sent through the mail to a Dr. Cooper in Ogdensburg, NY.
It appears to be in working condition, though we haven't tried looking at a slide, and the lenses are somewhat dusty
