rare antique Imperial Russian Faberge solid silver, gold and enamel Elephant & Castle figurine,St.Peterburg,c1900's.

This unique figurine was made by Faberge's most famous head workmaster -Michael Perkhin(who produced near all of the Imperial Eggs).

The highest Danish order of chivalry was the ancient Order of the Elephant, belived to have been founded by the Danish King Knut IV in the twelfth century. It was a symbol of absolute rule in Denmark. The Order was formed by an elephant and castle-symbolises chastity and defence of the Christian faith.
Direct commissions for objects incorporating the elephant and castle were placed with Faberge in 1892 when the Russian Tsar Alexander III and his wife Maria Feodorovna(a Danish Princess) commissioned the firm to produce a large kovsh surmounted by an elephant and castle to commemorate the golden wedding anniversary of King Christian IX and Queen Louise. In 1903 Tsar Nicholas II commissioned Faberge to produce an Easter egg for Maria Feodorovna;known as the Danish Jubilee Egg,it is surmounted by an elephant and castle.Faberge's two greatest patrons were Alexandra and her sister Marie Feodorovna, and he shrewdly introduced miniature elephants and castles to his range of products, perhaps at their suggestion
