- John Ebsworth of Cross Keys, Lothbury, London was a pre-eminent and important early clockmaker. He was apprenticed to another famous maker Richard Aymes from February 1657 until freed in April 1665. Interestingly, Aymes had been apprenticed to another famous maker Peter Closon, so it is clear that Ebsworth aquired his skills through a fine line of famous and skilled makers.
- Ebsworth was appointed Master of the Clockmakers Company in 1697 and was responsible for a number of fine longcase, lantern and bracket clocks. as well as the Royal connection he has a longcase clock in the V&A's collection
