very rare and early Oratiograph Antique Toy Phonograph, circa 1899. Made by Jean Schoenner.

A decal on the bedplate reads “D.R.Patent angem. English Patent”. This full metal baseplate version of the Oratiograph features upper-works made of a heavy metal and elaborate feed-screw and gear set that would move a recorder across a wax blank. (not present). Later more simplified models of the Oratiograph lack these mechanical components. This machine is essentially constructed to function like a full scale phonograph. The machine would have been powered by hand and used to make home recordings.
