English, dated 1903 from the Dallmeyer Records (see image below), the camera is signed to the viewer on the top ‘J. H. Dallmeyer LONDON, Patent No. 63872’ and the lens is signed ‘J. H. Dallmeyer, London, 1A Patent’, the case has a retail label for ‘The London Camera Exchange’, the camera is constructed of wood covered in polished back leather with all black lacquered metal parts, focusing is via rack and pinion with a locking screw and by push/pull to a dovetail at the front with a second locking nut, he bellows are lacquered with square corners, the shutter is a rollerblind type shutter at the back of the camera, inside is a mirror which is used to view through the lens using the viewer mounted on the top of the camera.
The lens is a Dallmeyer 1A soft focus Petzval lens with a telephoto extension to the rear, the telephoto extension can be removed and the 1A Petzval lens used on its own using the threaded mount adapter.
The camera comes in its original leather case with 6 DDs and a film back, a detailed handwritten instruction manual for the operation of the camera and lens.
Condition:
cosmetically the camera is in good condition with wear typical of use and age.
Mechanically the shutter does not work but the spring is still there. The actual roller blind had probably perished as these were often rubber coated.
Optically the lens is good and clean with no issues
